Appleton City, MO 28 December 1916 NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS: Mr. and Mrs. Lem Sargent and little son, Floyd, spent Christmas at the George Sargent home. Rev. Frey of Montrose is holding a meeting at the Pleasant Home church. Merl and Thelma Sargent spent Monday night and Tuesday with their brother and family near Pleasant Gap. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Merrifield and children were trading in Appleton City Saturday. Wendal Wheeler, who has been in Iowa for the past few months, returned home Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hollister left Saturday evening for Kansas, where they will visit with Mr. Hollister's parents. Misses Ruth Neale and Gulah Buskirk, who are attending school in town, are spending their vacation with home folks. Troy Cornish visited Saturday and Sunday with his cousin, Paul Williams. Prof. C. L. Majors, who is teaching school in Oklahoma, is spending his vacation with relatives in this community. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Crichton and daughters, Mabel and Cora, and son Clarence, were shopping in Appleton City Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie McEwan and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis McEwan visited Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McEwan. Mrs. Charles Caton and little daughter attended the Christmas tree at the Christian church Saturday night. Miss Ola Brown spent Friday night with Fanny Bellomy. Miss Flora Green is spending the holidays with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Green. Lon Varnes is suffering from a broken leg, which he received one day last week. Little Elsie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brown, is on the sick list. HOOVER and TABERVILLE: Johnny Rosbrough was visiting in the Prairie Home Neighborhood the first of the week. Mrs. Dan Waters and children, Gladys, Garland and Delbert, and Mrs. Perrine ate Christmas dinner at Curt Thompson's. Mrs. Perrine is visiting in the Water's home this week. Miss Lela Allison returned last week from Sedalia. Misses Birdie Allison and Kate Nunn are spending Christmas at Robert Allison's. Miss Gladys Waters is spending Christmas with home folks. Mr. and Mrs. Curt Thompson and son Clarence visited Saturday night at Dan Water's. Henry, Clinton and Warner Allinson delivered hogs to Schell City Monday. ROUTE TWO: Mrs. Roland Gragg is slowly recovering from her recent illness. Chas. Majors came in from Big Cabin, Okla., where he has been teaching school, and will spend the holidays with home folks here. Mrs. Walter Pippinger visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fahnestock, of near Deepwater, over Christmas. Ike Zink and family spent Christmas with his mother, Mrs. Andy Zink, of Johnson City. His brother, Dee, has been quite sick for the past ten days. Lewis McEwan and wife were Christmas visitors at Mr. Burk's. Jim Nevius and family spent Christmas with his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Nevius. Frank Holub and wife have gone to Marshalltown, Ia., to make their home. Ed Jones has moved to Mr. Holub's farm. Worth Ridgway delivered hogs to Appleton City Monday morning. Ernest Downer and wife were Sunday visitors at the Clem Thralls home and attended services at the Spring Grove church in the afternoon. Leslie McEwan and wife and Ed Jones and family were entertained in the Abner Carrier home Christmas day. Bert Dines and wife were Sunday visitors at O. K. Crowder's. Dr. Taylor reports the arrival of a daughter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward, on December 16. All parties doing well. Russell Jones spent Christmas with friends west of Monegaw. Mrs. Mary Jones, of Appleton City, is visiting relatives here this week. This community was shocked by the news of Mr. Cunningham's death last Thursday, as few knew of his illness, he being sick only a few hours. The body was taken to north Missouri Saturday morning for burial. Everyone extends sympathy to the children who are left orphans. Charles Dingus and wife, and Bud Carroll and family were Sunday visitors in the Charles Ditty home. Mrs. Plympton and children visited with Ike Zink's Sunday. Link Robinson and family went to his parents at Ohio P. O. last Sunday to visit over Christmas. Last Friday afternoon there was a Christmas tree at Appleton Centre school for the children. A very good program was rendered. PLEASANT RIDGE ITEMS: Mr. and Mrs. Talmage Raybourn and little daughter visited Sunday at the James Raybourn home. Clark Wix returned Saturday from a trip to Oklahoma. Julius Scheilz and Paul Pipes spent Sunday evening with Logan Rains. Miss Cora Prier spent Tuesday night with Miss Christie Sargent. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Pharis and children from Canada, arrived Friday for a visit with the former's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hill, of Butler, visited during the Christmas holidays with the former's mother, Mrs. Hill. COPELAND NEWS: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neale moved Thursday to Rich Hill where they expect to make their future home, as he has employment there. Mrs. Jim Casperson was confined to her bed several days last week from an attack of the grip. Mrs. Huckstep and children, of El Dorado Springs, are spending the week with Charles McConnell and family. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Casperson entertained the following home folks at Christmas dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Casbourne, and Ralph, Mr. and Mrs. J. Casperson, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Brownfield and children and Mr. and Mrs. Uhr and Robert, of Montrose. Jake Baldwin and Bud Caton shipped a load of cattle Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Lester McConnell ate Christmas dinner with Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lough. Mr. and Mrs. Gwin and Cline visited Roland Gregg and family Christmas day. They report Mrs. Gragg as steadily improving. Mrs. John Baldwin and children and Mr. Clark visited home folks in town Monday. Rev. Carpenter begun a protracted meeting at Mt. Carmel Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Johnson are spending Christmas at her father's near Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith were shopping in Uneeda Friday. Dr. Howard was called to Mr. Skaggs' Monday night to see a sick mule. |
