Berthel Nelson Bennink was born April 6, 1919, in Redfield, Iowa, to John Henry Bennink
and Harriett Russell Bennink, and died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at St. Joseph's Medical Center
 in Kansas City. He married Hazel Maxine Spencer September 3, 1949.
He was employed at International Harvester and the United States Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet Russell Bennink; his father, John Henry Bennink Russell; his aunt, Lillian
Hammond, who raised him from the age of five years; one son, Nelson Leroy Bennink; one half-brother, Rufus Russell, and one great-grandson, Cody Bennink. He is survived by his wife of 53 years,
Hazel Maxine Spencer Bennink, Lowry City; three sons, James Bennink and wife Rose, Lowry City,
Eddie Bennink and wife Karen, Shawnee, Kansas, and Joe Bennink and wife Debbie, Overland Park, Kansas; two daughters, Laura Ellen Brown and husband Virgil, Kansas City, Kansas, and Gerty Johnson
and husband Mike, Clinton; one half-brother, Leroy Russell, Boyceville, Wisconsin, and one
half-sister, Darlene Schmidt and husband Eddie, Downing, Wisconsin; fourteen grandchildren, eleven
great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Tuesday, September 24, 2 p.m., at Clinton Church of Christ, with Rev. Jim Braley and Rev. Nolan Rutter officiating. Burial was in Concord Cemetery. Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, was in charge of arrangements.
