7 July 2006
Carolyn Luther, 67, of Osceola, died Sunday, July 2, at her daughter
and son-in-law's Kansas City home where she lost her spirited battle
with cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 1

Carolyn was born to Oliver and Arvilla Luther on June 22, 1939, in
Independence. After graduating in 1957 from William Chrisman High
School, Carolyn began work at KMBZ Radio in Kansas City. Continuing
her love of radio and sports, she moved to Osceola where she went to
work for a radio station in Bolivaar. While there, Carolyn provided
play-by-play announcing for many local schools.
In November 1971, Carolyn gave birth to her own little sports
side-kick, Lyndy. Following this most important event, Carolyn decided
to attend Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, where she received her
teaching degree in 1980. During the next 25 years of teaching in
Osceola, Carolyn grew as the official team spirit leader for not only
the school and Lyndy, but the community. She dedicated her time
throughout the years as Osceola's cheerleading sponsor, Osceola
Invitational Basketball Tournament spirit organizer and announcer,
Grace United Methodist Church member and Osceola Community Pool
Manager. Carolyn loved the time she spent taking pictures and
recording memories for many OHS Students.
In addition to her love of Osceola and OHS, she still found time to be
an avid Kansas City Sports fan and supporter. Her love began with the
Kansas City A's bseball team and continued to the very end with her
love of the Chiefs and Royals. Recently, adding a new sports team to
support, the Arkansas Razorbacks, thanks to her son-in-law, Jerry.
Carolyn will be remembered as a devoted and beloved friend, school and
community supporter, teacher, sports fan and most importantly, a Mom.
Survivors include Lyndy and Jerry Elmore, daughter and son-in-law of
Kansas City, (and her granddog, Fred); Skeeter and Phyllis Luther,
brother and sister-in-law, Bates City; and Elizabeth Luther, niece and
her children, Blue Springs.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alexander and Flora
Luther, and her parents, Oliver and Arvilla Luther.
