ELLEN ARMINTA KNIGHT UNDERWOOD

Ellen Arminta Underwood was born October 28, 1910, to James and Stella
Knight in St. Clair County. She attended Chalk Level and Lowry City
schools. Ellen confessed Jesus Christ Lord and Savior when she was 10
years old, and attended Kidd's Chapel Church and later the Ohio
Christian Church. On December 1, 1931, she was married to Clell Edward
Underwood in the home of Rev. Walkup, minister of the Deepwater
Presbyterian Church. Clell and Ellen made their home in the Chalk
Level and Ohio neighborhood until 1946 and then in Deepwater for 31
years. They lived in Appleton City then until about four years ago
when they moved to the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center
in Pleasant Hill. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; two
brothers, Ralph and Arnold, and one sister, Lillian, who died at nine
months of age. Ellen is survived by her husband, Clell, their two
sons, Rolla Wesley Underwood and his wife, JoAnn, Pleasant Hill, and
their four children, Jacqualine Sue, Roger Lynn, Sondra Louise and
Randall Gene, and Wendell Lynn Underwood and his wife, Shirley Darlene
of Sedalia, and their two children, Kameha Ruth and Dana Rae. She is
also survived by nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews
and many friends. Ellen died Monday, august 3, 1998, at about 4:30 in
the afternoon at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel Friday, August
7, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Fenwick officiating. Pallbearers were
Roger Underwood, Randy Underwood, Brandon Flaters, Robert Terryberry,
Myron "Sparky" Knight and Stanley Knight. Burial was in the Clinton
Memory Gardens Cemetery, Clinton, under the direction of Vansant-Mills
Funeral Home of Clinton.
