LYTLE ELVIN BARNETT

Lytle Elvin Barnett was born on May 27, 1908, near Oyer, the son of Jasper Elvin and Carnelia May
Amick Barnett. He died October 20, 2005, at the age of 97 in the Truman Lake Manor nursing home
where he had been living for more than two years. He attended grade school at Glendale and graduated
from Roscoe High School in 1928. Lytle was a guard on the Roscoe basketball team whose picture
appeared in the state book as a top team.
On February 14, 1929, he married Orpha A. Henderson near Roscoe. To this union three children
were born.
Lytle farmed most of his life near Roscoe. He and a neighbor, Fred Babler, took a number of Agriculture Extension Courses and then working with the county agent, built some of the first water ways and
terraces in the area.
Lytle was saved at an early age and spent decades as an active member and superintendent of the
Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He conducted many funerals and preached over the years.
Lytle was preceded in death by his parents Jasper and May Barnett, his wife Orpha; his sister Elsie and
her husband Marva Lines; his brother, Homer Barnett; and granddaughter C. Joe Coleman Pummill.
Survivors include his children Derl Barnett of Osceola, Wanda and Jimmie Coleman of Clinton and Noel
and Sharon Barnett of Nixa; grandchildren Randa and Stuart Kohen of Kansas City, Craig and Lisa
Coleman of Osage Beach, Kent and Tammy Coleman of Clinton, Brent Coleman of Bolivar, Mia and
Tom Carlew of Springfield, Tadd Barnett of El Dorado Springs, Stan Barnett of Wilmette, Ill., and Maleea Barnett of Chicago, Ill.; two sister-in-laws, Lucille Barnett and Opal Hlavacek both of El Dorado Springs; nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services were Sunday, October 23, at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church. Services were officiated
 by Rev. Craig Coleman and Rev. Everett Smith. Music was “How Great Thou Art” and “Peace in the Valley” by Gail Ingle, soloist. Casket bearers were Stan Barnett, Stuart Kohen, Josh Carlew, Tadd
Barnett, Matt McDermott and Tom Carlew. Interment was in Pleasant Springs Cemetery in El Dorado Springs with arrangements by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home in Osceola.

Lytle E. Barnett, 97, Osceola, died at Truman Lake Manor, Lowry City, Thursday, October 20, 2005.
She is survived by two sons, Derl of Osceola and Noel D. (Ben) and wife Sharon, Nixa; one daughter, Wanda Coleman and husband Jimmie, Clinton. Funeral services are pending under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
