Gerald Bennett Tyler, born on July 10, 1920 in Mexico, Missouri, the son of Estel Jackson and Floy (Bennett) Tyler, died peacefully in his home in Odessa Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the age of 84 years. Gerald was in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He had traveled all over the world.
He came back to Missouri in 1954, met and married Helen Rosenbuch. They had been married for 42 years before she preceded him in death. Helen had three children, Bobbi, Merlin and Ramona.
Gerald also had many grandchildren and one in particular who was like a son to him, Craig Knight.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Gerald is survived by his one stepson, Merlin Barton, Crescent City, California; two step-daughters, Bobbi Lucas, Kansas City, and Bessie Ramona Strickland, Corder; eight step-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; three nieces, Susan Chrisman and Jeanette Gardner, both of Springfield, and Billie Joe Wilkerson, St. Louis, as well as two caregivers who became close to him during these last few months, Debbie Wheeler and Marilyn Mace.
Funeral services were held at Vansant-Mills Chapel Thursday, June 16.
Interment was in the Landaker Cemetery, Lowry City.
