Gallant Knight Gets His Dates Badly Mixed
The old saying that “the course of true love never runs smooth”, was
never more fully demonstrated than it was recently in the affairs of a
prominent and well-known widower farmer, who lives not far from Hudson.
It so happens that his lady friend is a telephone operator, and on the
day in question, after enjoying an animated conversation with her over
the phone, he later called up to ask her to attend the picture show that
evening. Now here’s where his troubles began in earnest. It so happens
that another eligible lady operator was on duty, just then, but still
thinking he was talking to his enamorita, Mr. Farmer asked her to attend
the show with him, and the offer was accepted with pleasure. That
evening, “dressed in his best”, with his heart beating in rhythm with
his elastic step, he hurried to the home of his lady fair to escort her
to the show, when lo and behold, she expressed much surprise and
politely informed him that he had made no date for that evening with
her. To make a long story short, it required a lot of time explaining
how it all came about, and he is still making every effort to obtain
forgiveness from the other lady who waited in vain for his coming. The
whole affair was certainly a pretty mean trick on the part of this
fellow, and The Journal feels that “hanging” would be too good for him,
but since we are not called upon to pass sentence, we will leave him to
work out his own salvation. Out of consideration for the two ladies who
were so ungallantly treated, we refrain from mentioning their names, but
the initials of our farmer friend are “Roy Saddler”.
