Murder in Henry County

Osceola Herald
27 July 1871

Murder in Henry.
On the 17th inst., a son of Dr. Logan Clark, well-known to many of our old citizens, shot and killed John Williams, at Windsor, Henry county. We clip the following in regard to the murder from the Clinton Advocate:
”On the morning of the 17th a son of Dr. L. Clark of Windsor, killed John Williams. It seems that Clark was in love with Williams’ sister and his family were opposed to it; so much so that he took his sister away from a neighbor’s house where she was keeping company with Clark. This caused bitter words to be used.
On the 17th Clark and two others named Means and Steele, went out where W. was stacking oats, and told him they wanted to have a talk. W. said he wanted nothing to do with them. Clark pulled out a pistol and commenced shooting; after firing twice, W. fired once, but with no effect; the third shot from C. struck W. near the heart and he died inside of an hour. All three of the guilty parties were arrested and brought to the jail on Tuesday night and the following morning were taken to Windsor for examination.”
