Stephen moved to St. Clair Co., MO with his mother Clarissa Mitchener Stuart, brother James L. Robert Stuart, brother William Marcus Stuart, sister & brother-in Law Susan Caroline Stuart & Andrew Franklin Corbin and sister & brother-in Law Penelope Seymour Stuart & Joshua William "J. W." Ellis

William Marcus Stuart enlisted in the Civil War in 1861, around Springfield MO. Stephen James Stuart enlisted in the Civil War to be with his brother per Civil War application.

Both William Marcus Stuart & Stephen James Stuart came to Texas after their mother Clarissa Mitchener Stuart died in St. Clair Co. MO in 1865.
