I am the great-great-grandson of Jacob Coonce. My granddad was D.B. Warren who was the son of W.W. Warren, one of the Sheriffs of St Clair County. My grandmother was Eva Johnston the daughter of Mary Ellen Coonce, the daughter of Jacob Coonce (I think I'm right on this). I spent many summers playing on my grandparents farm on the Osage River, to be specific in a creek named Briley prior and during WW II. Great memories!!! Tuesday, May 11th 2004

Just want to say thank you to the St. Clair County Historical Society for all your work producing the Cemetery Book. I purchased mine from Dorothy Dains several years ago at a Parks/Shady Grove Cemetery Meeting, and it has been soooo valuable to me and others through Rootsweb. Every once in a while I offer to do lookups for people, and this weekend I was especially busy, and was able to locate many ancestors for people who were searching. I love doing this, but if you are still selling the book, send an email through Rootsweb St. Clair County, and let people know. I noticed it was Volume II, and I am wondering if there will be a III? Soon I will have to purchase another because the binding is a bit inadequate for the number of times I have opened it. It has coffee stains from jubilant spills of wonderful finds, and tears of joy and sadness. It would be helpful in a future addition to know of all unknown graves found, and where. I have found many in your cemetery descriptions. I also would like to know how to get in touch with Margie and Dick Elliott, as I have had many requests from people wanting to do this for their areas. My gggrandparents were buried in Chalk Level, and moved to Parks/Shady Grove...My grandfather was born in Osceola, and a year ago this week, my father, Jeff Parks passed away...through him I learned the values of family, and my last name. Thank You All, God Bless You for helping so many before it was too late. Terry Parks Johnson

I have a few ancestors that lived in Appleton City at some time during their lives. The most prominent of these is George Washington Clark, b: 16 Dec 1839 (Illinois), d: 20 Nov 1933 (Appleton City, MO). He was apparently a banker for some of his life. Two of his children were born in St. Clair County (that I know of). I even have an obituary and a biographical sketch. Monday, March 15th 2004

My uncle Mike Poe lived in the farmhouse where the gun battle took place. You turn off of E highway on the gravel road his house was the first one on the left down a long driveway. You can see the property from E highway .I’m curious if you know any history on the house and surrounding property .I always heard one of the gunfighters died in the pig pen on that property and that there is a old Indian burial ground in the woods behind the house. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Michael J. Poe
