The first application for a distribution of slave property in St. Clair County
was made to the Rives County Court by the Administrator of Gabriel P. Nash, May
1838.

October Term 1845, page 160: Trespass on the Case
William W. Walters – Plff vs Uriah S. Sutherland – Deft
Now at this day comes the parties by their attorneys and both parties being
ready for trial comes a jury to wit: William B. Moore, Daniel K. Keith, Charles
H. Yeater, Henry Pollard, Warren C. Keith, Washington Whitton, Simeon Poston,
Robert Anderson, Richard Baughan, Gabriel Nash, Stephen Jonigan and Mathias M.
Corley Twelve good and lawful men well and truly elected tried and sworn to try
the issue in this cause joined. After hearing the evidence and argument of
Counsel returned here into Court the following orders We the jury find the
defendant not guilty, Therefore it is considered by the Court that the said
defendant recover of the said plaintiff his costs and chares in this behalf laid
out and expended, and that have there for his writ of Execution.
April Term 1846, page 176 & 177:
The Grand Jury returned here into Court the following Bills of Indictment a true
Bill against Samuel P. Hedges, Alexander Moore, Elkennah Cain and Robert Beal
for Gaming also a true Bill Against Elkennah Cain for Suffering gaming in his
house also a true Bill against Henry Pollard for Suffering Gaming in his house
also a true Bill against Benjamin Wilkerson for selling Liquor to an Indian. A
true Bill against George Suiter for Bartering with an Indian for a gun also a
true Bill against Albert Shelton for failing to keep his road district in repair
also a true Bill against Henry Pollard, Elkennah Cain, Joseph Burteax and
Gabriel Nash for Gaming and having no further business before them were by the
Court discharged and on motion of the Circuit attorney it is ordered that
Capias’s issue on said Indictments directed to the Sheriff of St. Clair County
returnable to the next Term of this Court.
October Term 1846, page 185: Indct for Gaiming
State of Missouri – plff vs Henry Pollard, Elkennah Cain, Joseph Barteaux &
Gabriel Nash – Defts
Now at this day Comes the Circuit attorney who prosecutes for the State of
Missouri as well as the said defendants Henry Pollard, Elkennah Cain and Joseph
Burteaux who say they are guilty in manner and form as in the said indictment is
Charged against them and submits their Cases to the Court – Whereupon the Court
doth assess a fine of ten dollars each Therefore it is Considered by the Court
that the said Plaintiff recover of the said Defendants Henry Pollard and
Elkennah Cain and Joseph Burteaux the Sum of ten Dollars each together with her
Costs and Charges in this behalf laid out and Expended and that she have thereof
her writ of Execution – and it Appearing to the Court that the Capias in this
cause issued could not be served upon the said Defendant Gabriel Nash upon
motion of said Plaintiff by her attorney, it is ordered that an alias writ do
issue against said defendant.
October Term 1846, page 186: Continuance
Gabriel Nash directed to the Sheriff of St. Clair County returnable to the next
term of this Court, untill which time this Cause is ordered to be Continued as
to the said Defendant Gabriel Nash.
April Term 1847, page 195: Indictment for Gaming
State of Missouri vs Henry Pollard, Elkennah Cain, Joseph Barteaux & Gabriel
Nash
Now at this day Comes the Circuit attorney who prosecutes for the state of
Missouri, As well as the said defendant Gabriel Nash And Says that he is guilty
in manner and form as in this Said Indictment Against him is Charged and throws
himself upon the Mercy of the Court – Whereupon the Court doth assess a fine of
ten Dollars against the said Gabriel Nash. Therefore it is Considered by the
Court that the State of Missouri recover against the said defendant Nash the
aforesaid Sum of ten Dollars as assessed as aforesaid – together with her costs
and Charges in this behalf laid out and expended and that she have thereof her
writ of Execution.
April Term 1847, page 200: Appeal
David A. Bunch – plff vs Daniel Cline – Deft
Now at this day Comes the parties by their attorney and both parties being ready
for trial comes a Jury Towit Hencen S. Sterns, Hiram Vaed, Wm. Kelso, Joseph N.
Burteaux and William C. Saunders and Gabriel P. Nash 6 good and lawful men
elected tried and sworn well and truly to try the issue in this Cause Joined
returned here into Court the following Verdict, “We the Jury find for the
plaintiff the sum of Eighteen Dollars” Therefore it is Considered by the court
that the said Plaintiff recover against the said Defendant the sum of Eighteen
Dollars so assessed by the Jury as aforesaid together with his Costs and charges
in this behalf laid out and expended and that he have thereof his writ of
Execution.
October Term 1854, page 449: Appeal
Jonathan Culbertson vs Gabriel P. Nash
Now at this day comes the said Defendant by his attorney and consents and agrees
that this cause may be tried by this court Notwithstanding the Judge of this
court has been counsel for said plaintiff.
September Term 1857, page 228: Jurors chosen for Osceola Township for this term
of court.

September Term 1857, page 235b: Appeal from County Court
John B. Brown – Plff vs John McDowell adm’r Debonis Non of the Estate of Henry
Dent Dec’d – Deft
Now at this day comes the said parties by their attorneys and both parties being
ready for trial comes a Jury To wit James Addington, Adam Huffman, Thomas H.
Lessley, Gabriel P. Nash, Jonathan Culbertson, Eli Boots, and Ervin Thomas Seven
good and lawful men Elected and agreed upon as a Sufficient Jury to try this
cause who having been & duly Sworn to well and truly try the Issue in this cause
Joined after hearing the evidence returned into court here the following verdict
To wit “We the Jury find for the Plaintiff fifty Dollars and 65/100. G.P. Nash
foreman”
It is therefore considered by the court that the said plaintiff have and recover
against the said Defendant as Administrator Debonis Non of the Estate of the
said Henry Dent Dec’d the said Sum of $50.65 cents so found by the Jury as
aforesaid for his debt together with his costs in this behalf Laid out and
Expended
And It is ordered by the court here that the Same be certified to the county
court of St. Clair county Missouri.
September Term 1857, page 240 & 241: Civil action

Now at this day comes the said parties by their attornies and both parties being
ready for trial comes a Jury To wit James Dudley, Adam Huffman, Gabriel P. Nash,
Baldwin Dade, James M. Delozier, Robert Sprowell, Reuben Vaughn, Alexander B.
Robinson, Richard Garrison, Joseph D. Dear, Oliver H.P. Culbertson and Ervin
Thomas Twelve good and lawful men Elected and sworn to well and truly try the
Issue in this cause Joined who after hearing the evidence were by the court
adjourned until tomorrow morning 9 oclock under the usual Charge of the court
there not being Sufficient time to go through with the case this evening.

St. Clair County Democrat, March 14, 1940:
Zachariah Lilley - On May 30, 1837, he was married to Agatha Lewis Nash (born
August 19, 1819 in Roanoke Co., Virginia; died December 4, 1888 in St. Clair
County, Missouri). She was the daughter of Dr. Gabriel Pann Nash and Elizabeth
Madison McClanahan, who had now become Mrs. P. M. Cox, Sr.
In 1840, Zachariah Lilley signed the petition to make St. Clair County from a
portion of Rives County.
They lived in a small house in Osceola, then purchased several hundred acres
across the Osage about a mile from Osceola, and with the help of slave labor,
operated the farm.
