Iver S. Coale, 91, Osceola, died Sunday, February 13, 1994, at the Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola. He was born in Coal. He had been an Osceola area resident the past 53 years. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife Mildred "bunt" Coale, of the home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 16 at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Blond Elvin Cochran, 89, El Dorado Springs, passed away June 29, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 5, at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon-Goodrich Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, with burial in the Pleasant Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home. There will be a complete obituary published in next week's paper.

Donald E. Cochran, 59, of "Pa and Shorty's Animal Farm", Richmond, passed away Tuesday Dec. 11 at his
home. Donald was born on Sept. 12, 1948 in Orrick, the son of James Curtis and Bessie Elizabeth (Covey)
Cochran. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked as an over the road truck driver for several years. He and his wife, Karen, were married May 24, 2002 in Richmond. He enjoyed his animal farm, camping,
fishing and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially puling them around in the pasture. Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home; two daughters, Tracy Jones and her husband, Robbie, Osceola and Donna Clark and her husband, Chuck, Excelsior Springs; one stepso, Buddy Johnson, Kansas City; sister Judy Woods and her husband, Bob, Henrietta, Mo; brother, Tim Coleman, Richmond; sisters Penny Winfrey and her husband, Stanley, Osceola and Debbie Walker, Oklahoma City, Okla; six grandchildren, Ashley Clark, Jeff Cochran, Tabitha Jones, Robbie Jones, Abby Johnson and Ashley Johnson and one great granddaughter, Joslyn Jerome. Funeral services were Dec. 15 at Polley Funeral Home, Richmond and burial at Bear Creek Cemetery, Osceola.

COCHRAN, James Curtis

James Curtis Cochran was born on February 19, 1930 in Kansas City, to James Clyde Cochran and Lillian Marie Lewis Cochran and passed away on April 24, 2007 at his home in rural Osceola with every one of his children at his side. James was an Army veteran serving in the Air Corp from April 1947 through May 1949. He was a Past Commander of his VFW Post and a Mason. He spent many years as a heavy equipment operator and also was a produce salesman. James also owned and operated the Rocky Top Tavern. He was a family man. James enjoyed spending his time with his family and had lots of love for each of them. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie on February 27, 2004 and his son James "Jimbo" Cochran and his parents, James and Lillian Cochran. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Woods; son, Donald Cochran, both of Richmond, Zella Winfrey, Osceola and Deborah Walker, Moore, Okla., 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, other relatives and many, many friends. Services were held Saturday, April 28 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Officiated by Minister Greg Mangum. Eulogist Rebecca Winfrey Flynn. Music selection played was "The Great Judgement Morning", "Precious Memorie" and "We'll Meet Again". Casketbearers were Jason Walker, James Winfrey, Tim Coleman, Curtis Woods, Jessee Woods and Rob Jones. Military honors were done by Clinton VFW Post #1894. Interment was in Bear Creek Cemetery. Arrangements by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Charles B. Cockrell Dies in Kansas City - Charles B. Cockrell, aged 70 years, 500 East Locust Avenue, died at a hospital at Kansas City yesterday, after a serious illness of two weeks. He had been in ill health the past three years. He was born February 10, 1873, in St. Clair County, Mo., and was married to Miss Effie Ethridge, September 14, 1907, at Osceola, Mo. She survives him. He had resided in this community for the past 26 years. Mr. Cockrell was formerly a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. A daughter, Mrs. A.P. Mynear, of El Dorado; a son, Charles Elmo Cockrell, in service in the South Pacific with the United States Navy; a brother, Magnus Cockrell, of Appleton, Mo.; a half-sister, Mrs. Mary E. Ginter, of Appleton, Mo.; and three half-brothers, Lewis Bassett, of El Dorado; William H. Bassett, of North Wood, Iowa; and John Francis Bassett, of Lyle, Minn., also survive him. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Byrd Funeral Home. Rev. Ozie Pruett, pastor of the Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be made in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Cockrell Funeral Held Yesterday - Funeral services were held late yesterday afternoon at the Byrd Funeral Home for Charles B. Cockrell, who died Sunday at Kansas City, Mo. They were in charge of Rev. Ozie Pruett, pastor of the Baptist Church and interment ws made in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Miss Gloria Browning sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden", with the accompaniment played by Mrs. Fred Burr. Pall-bearers included Carl Bassett, Earl Plimpton, T.E. Baker, E.H. Ethridge, Alfred Cockrell and A.P. Mynear.

COCKRELL, Eugene Mitchell
Eugene M. Cockrell - Gene was born Dec. 27, 1924 to Alfred and Veta Cockrell at their farm in the Ohio Community Southeast of Appleton City, Mo. He departed this life March 5, 1996 at his home in Austin, Texas.
Funeral services were held in Bolivar, Mo. March 9, 1996. He was laid to rest in a pretty little cemetery, Payne, southeast of Bolivar. Gene is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home, three sons, one daughter, two stepchildren, Larry and wife of Chicago, Steve and wife of Alaska, Brad and wife of Texas, Sandra Haynes and husband of Raymore, Mo., Roger and wife and Barbara of Georgetown, Texas. Two sisters; Winnifred and husband Earl Thomas of Appleton City, Mo., Joan and husband Harvey Cross of Tyler, Texas; one brother Bill Cockrell and wife of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jack and one sister, Wanda. Gene served his country during World War II. He loved the outdoors, all sports. Gene's special love of dogs and horses will long be remembered by his family. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends which was many as he never forgot a face or name.

COCKRELL, Mintie Florence Burris
Mrs. Mintie Cockrell Dies Suddenly - Mrs. Magness Cockrell, 67 years old, died suddenly at her home southeast of Appleton City, Monday afternoon. She was found dead in her kitchen by her husband. It was thought a heart attack caused the death. Mrs. Cockrell had been in rather poor health for some time, but had seemed to be better the last two or three weeks. Monday, she put out a washing and in the afternoon Mr. Cockrell left the house for a short time. When he returned, Mrs. Cockrell had fallen on the floor and was dead.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Trinity Methodist church by Rev. G.A. Moss. Burial was in the Appleton City cemetery. Mintie Forence Burris, daughter of Isaac M. and Sarah Margaret Burris, was born May 14, 1874, near Westfork, Ark., and died November 10, 1941, at the age of 67 years, five months and 26 days. On September 17, 1893, she was united in marriage to Arthur Magness Cockrell at Fayetteville, Ark. To this union one son was born, Alfred, of Appleton City. Besides the husband, son and daughter-in-law, she leaves to mourn her death six grandchildren, Mrs. Winnifred Thomas, of Appleton City; Chester Cockrell, who is in Iceland with the U.S. Marine Corps; Wanda Cockrell, of Kansas City; Eugene, Joan and Billy Don of the home; also one great-grandchild, little Leslie Earl Thomas. She also leaves two sisters: Mrs. Maud Miller, of Westville, Okla., and Mrs. Minnie Huise, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Walter Burris, of Westfork, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and friends. The first few years of her married life was spent in Arkansas and Oklahoma. The remaining 41 years of her life was spent in St. Clair County. Mrs. Cockrell professed Christ in 1898 and united with the Christian church. In later years she joined the Church of God at Johnson City. She was always willing to help with the work of the Lord. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, living a life of unselfishness. She was ever ready to help those in need.

COCKRELL, Veta Vivian Carpenter
Services Friday For Mrs. Veta Cockrell - Funeral services for Mrs. Veta V. Cockrell, who died at Ellett Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning, were held Friday, April 22, at the First Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. William Moore, officiating. "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Lawrence Burns and Mrs. William Moore, with Mrs. D.P. Huff at the organ. Escorts were Robert Nichols, Fred Talbot, J.C. Jones, Ashel Tindall, Forrest Knight and Johnie Bauer. Interment was in Appleton City cemetery, under the direction of Eckhoff Funeral Home. Veta Vivian Carpenter was born December 30, 1898 near Johnson City in St. Clair County, the second child of Julus O. (Dife) and Katherine (Kate) Carpenter. She died April 20, 1966, following a lingering illness, at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 20 days. At an early age she became a Christian and united with the First Christian Church in Appleton City. She later transferred her membership to the Overland Park Christian Church of Overland Park, Kans. She was united in marriage to Alfred Cockrell on November 12, 1916. To them were born six children, Winnifred Thomas of Appleton City; Chester (Jack) Cockrell, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Wanda Edington, Denver, Colo.; Gene Cockrell, Osceola; Joan Cross, Dallas, Tex.; Billy Cockrell, Kansas City. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Gladys Schweniker, and Katherine Petty, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Chester Carpenter, Albuquerque, New Mex., Julius Carpenter, Kansas City, Kans. and Ernest Carpenter, Harrison, Ark.; one uncle; two aunts; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Most of her childhood was spent near Johnson City and surrounding area. After her marriage, the family made their home on a farm near Ohio Post office, where most of her children were born and reared. They later moved to a farm near Appleton City and in 1942 they moved to Kansas City, where Mrs. Cockrell made her home until her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.

COCKRUM, Eva Jones
Eva Jones Cockrum was born April 12, 1899 and died June 15, 1977 in Kansas City. She was the wife of Leroy Cockrum, and daughter of David E. Jones & Louisa Cooper. Eva attended school in St. Clair County, Missouri and graduated from Sedalia Business College. She left Missouri and went to Casper, Wyoming, while her parents homesteaded a ranch near Casper. While in Casper, she was a legal secretary and owner/ manager of a group of apartment houses. Wanting to be near relatives, she and her husband moved back to the Park Grove area, then to Kansas City in 1974, where she remained until her death. Burial in Lowry City Cemetery, Lowry City, Missouri.

COLE, Elvin Albert

In Memoriam - Little Elvin Albert Cole was born April 8, 1919. Departed this life August 3, 1919. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cole. Although his stay on earth was short we had learned to love him for his cheery sunny disposition so marked in one so young. He leaves a father, mother, three sisters, Zaulena, Arvella and Nora Francis and a host of other relatives to mourn their loss. Suffer little children to come unto me for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven. A Friend

COLE, John Edwin

John E. Cole was born in Washington, D.C., September 11, 1832; died at his late residence about five miles northwest of Osceola, St. Clair county, Missouri, Monday, May 25, 1914, making his age at his demise eighty-one years, eight months and sixteen days. He had been a resident of this county forty eight years, coming here soon after the war of 1861-65, he being a soldier in the Union army, having enlisted in the Fifth Iowa Infantry, service to the close of the war. Deceased was twice married, his first wife being Elizabeth McKibbin. To this union no children were born, but a boy was adopted, and given the name of John L. Cole, after the name of the deceased. His second wife was Miss Emma W. Short. To this union one son was born, Burlie S. Cole, and he, with his mother, and many relatives and many friends mourn the loss of a good father and a friend to many. Mr. Cole was one of the oldest members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge at Osceola, and was one of its most faithful attendants. He was also a member of the G.A.R. post at Lowry City, and after the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. D.T. Simmons, pastor of Grace M.E. church, in said church, at 3 o'clock p.m. Tuesday, May 26th, these two organizations took charge of his body and performed their last sad rites over the remains jointly in the Osceola cemetery. A large number of friends, besides quite a number of representatives of the two lodges, followed him to his last resting place.

COLE, Ray Sheldon

Ray Sheldon Cole, 87, died suddenly Saturday, November 21, 1998, at his home in Seminole, Florida. Ray was born July 15, 1911, near Osceola, to Burlie Sheldon Cole and Lena Viola Carter Cole. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1929 and attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. In 1937, he began his career with Johnson and Johnson which took him to Kansas City, Joplin, St. Louis, Boston and Chicago. He retired as district sales manager, Chicago, in 1970 and moved to Florida. Mr. Cole married Clara Juanita Cornelius on September 25, 1938, in Manhattan, Kansas. To this union were born three daughters, Cynthia Ann, Patricia Kay and Susan Ray. Mr. Cole married Betty Jacobson in 1957 in Chicago. She was a loving mother to Pat and Susan for several years, adopting them as her own with her Debbie. Although the daughters were reared in city life, they remember fondly the vacations taken as a family, always to find some good place to fish, for their dad loved to go fishing. He was a loving father to all of his family, having the best of times with his children and grandchildren, as well as all of the extended family of Cole's. After retirement, he was devoted to keeping the best of lawns, the prettiest of flowers and then to help all his neighbors with their yard work. At an early age, Ray became a member of Osceola Methodist Church. In his later years, he was a testimony to a life of faith in God, letting us know that he would meet us in Heaven. In 1975, Ray married Juanita (Jenny) Casis, a devoted wife and companion who survives him at home in Seminole. Other survivors are the three daughters, Cynthia Hilsabeck and husband, Ferrol, Sun City West, Arizona, Patricia Blake and husband, Charles, Columbia, South Carolina, and Susan O'Malley and husband, Jim, Duvall, Washington; adopted daughter, Ethel Casis of Seminole, Florida; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Jaunita Walker and husband, Leo, Clinton; two brothers, Merle Cole and wife, Anne, Billings, Montana, and Roy Cole and wife, Jennice, Temecula, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Idaleen Walters, and two brothers, Everett Cole and Paul Cole. Ray will be greatly missed here on earth by the hose of relatives and friends who loved him. Thanks be to God for leaving him here these 87 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 25, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial was in the Lowry City Cemetery.

COLE, Susan Curtie "Kate" Ethridge

Rites Tomorrow for Kate E. Cole - Kate E. Cole, 86, a Seattle resident since 1947, died Sunday night in a Seattle hospital. Born in Schell City, Mo., Mrs. Cole traveled to Oregon by covered wagon around the turn of the century. She returned to Missouri and after marrying Mark T. Cole, homesteaded near Billings, Mont., in 1919. After her husband died in 1947, she moved to Seattle and lived with her son. Surviving Mrs. Cole are one son, Raymond T. Cole, Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Gallagher of Olympia and Mrs. Lloyd Robbins, Vancouver; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be at St. Mark's Cathedral tomorrow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Acacia mausoleum. Remembrances may be sent to the Children's Orthopedic Hospital.

COLEMAN, A. Carl

A. Carl Coleman was born July 1, 1917 to Norman and Mary Frances Page Coleman. He passed away October 2, 1991 at Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs. Carl was born in Roscoe. He lived in the Kansas City area twenty years returning to the El Dorado Springs area in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Carl was a custodian 20 years at Norfleet Elementary School in Kansas City. On November 16, 1942 Carl was united in marriage to Frances L. Jones. To this union two sons were born. Frances preceded him in death on December 29, 1986. Carl is survived by two sons, Ron Coleman of Belton, and Lonnie Coleman of ElDorado Springs; two brothers, Ora and Charley Coleman, both of ElDorado Springs; one sister, Ruth Ezzell of Kansas City; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, other relatives and many friends. Carl was also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Arvella Street, Orpha Hunter, Ruby Amick, Lelia Smith and one granddaughter Roshonda Sue Coleman. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 6, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Burial was in the Pleasant Springs Cemetery.

COLEMAN, Elsie Ellen Jackson

Mrs. Elsie Ellen Coleman, 89, of Humansville, formerly of St. Clair County, died Monday February 21, 1994 at the Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. Mrs. Coleman was born in Roscoe. She was a lifelong St. Clair County area resident. She is survived by one son, Jimmie, of Clinton; one daughter, Ruth, of Excelsior Springs; one sister, Ethel Tillery, of Florida; 7 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 23, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial will be in the Benton Green Cemetery near Osceola.

COLEMAN, Herman Neil

Herman Neil Coleman, 64, the eldest child of Ora and Nellie Wightman Coleman, was born June 23, 1927, in Oyer, and died July 17, 1991 in Springfield General Hospital in Springfield. He attended Glendale and El Dorado Springs schools. From 1945 to 1947 he served as a technician in the US Army during WWII. On June 5, 1949, he was united in marriage to Naomi June Swopes in Lowry City. To this union two daughters were born. He lived in the Roscoe area all his life. He loved to hunt and fish and play practical jokes on family and friends. He never met a stranger. He will be missed by many. During the last of his illness he accepted his Lord as savior. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie; his sister, Lucille Deckard and his stepmother, Madge Grayson Smith Coleman. Survivors include his wife June, of the home; his daughters, Phyllis Kenney and husband James of Willard, and Gayle Heitman and husband Steve of Manhattan, Ks.; five grandchildren, Heather Hazen and husband David of Ft. Bragg NC, Nigel and Bathsheba Kenney of Willard, Bryce and Ethan Heitman of Manhattan, Kansas; two great-granddaughters, Krista and Stephanie Hazen of Ft. Bragg, NC; his father Ora Coleman of El Dorado Springs; his sister, Neva Green, and husband Virgil, of Independence; his stepsister Rosalee Rector and husband Leroy and El Dorado Springs; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He will long be remembered as a giver. He was very interested in people and a good neighbor. He served on the board of the Pleasant Springs Cemetery for many years and was very interested in its maintenance and progress. His unique self-styled, dry wit will also be remembered in spite of his having to cope with several years of poor health. He and June had quietly established a standard the family was privileged to know. Funeral services were Saturday, July 20, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial was in Pleasant Springs Cemetery

COLEMAN, Jimmie Lee

Jimmie Lee Coleman, 81, Clinton, was born April 30, 1928, in Roscoe to Elza Lee and Elsie Ellen (Jackson) Coleman. Jimmie passed away Aug. 6, 2009, while doing what he enjoyed most, coon hunting. In 1950 Jimmie was united in marriage to Wanda Barnett. To this union, five children were born - Randa, C. Jo, Craig, Jimmie K. and Brent. Jim worked from 1947 to 1956 as a mechanic at Lewis and York in Osceola. In 1956 he moved to Clinton to mechanic for Stayton Chevrolet. Bob Stayton convinced Jimmie to start selling cars for him in 1962 and he went on to be the top award-winning salesman for Stayton and later Readi Motors. Jimmie enjoyed spending the last six years selling cars for long time friend Gregg Smith at Gregg Smith Ford. Jimmie was a deacon at New Hope Baptist Church in Clinton. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, playing cards and eating Wanda’s homemade bread and pies. Jim also enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He was especially close to his cousins, Jerry Jackson and Bobby Coleman, and his brothers-in-law, Ben and Derl Barnett. He was preceded in death by his daughter, C. Jo Coleman; and one grandson, Eric Coleman. Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Wanda, of the home; his children - Randa Cohen, and husband, Stuart - Kansas City, Craig Coleman, and wife, Lisa - Camdenton, Jimmie K. Coleman, and wife, Tammy - Clinton and Brent Coleman, and wife, Debbie - Bolivar; five grandchildren - Mathew McDermott, Amanda Wells, Clint Coleman, Erin Coleman and Brandon (Jimmie) Coleman; four great-grandchildren - Hailey Jo, Garrett, Dayto and Fenix; and a sister, Ruth Smith - Excelsior Springs; other relatives and many, many friends. Services were held Monday, Aug. 10, in Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola, with Rev. Mike Foster and Rev. Craig Coleman officiating. Music was Amazing Grace and What A Friend We Have In Jesus sung by Gail Ingle. Interment under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home was in Roscoe Cemetery. Casketbearers were – Brandon Coleman, Clint Coleman, Mathew McDermott, Stuart Cohen, Dallas Wells and Gregg Smith. Honorary casketbearers were Noel D. Barnett, Derl Barnett, Bob Coleman, Tad Barnett, Tom Carlew, Donnie Wilson, Nolan Wilson, Alvin Tinsley and Jerry Jackson.

Coleman was born near Chalk Level on May 5, 1935, to Walter Motley and Ruth Keeton Motley and passed away on April 4, 2006, at Trumal Lake Manor in Lowry City, following poor health for several years. Ramona graduated from Osceola High School and worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. She returned to Roscoe and operated her own beauty shop for some time. Ramona married Cleo Mag Coleman on Aug. 9, 1964, and to this union one son was born. Mag and Ramona operated a store at their home in Roscoe. Ramona was very interested in her community and was a member of the historical society, cemetery board and very involved in Roscoe Fun Days. She loved to play pitch and played almost every Saturday night with friends at the Lodge Hall as long as her health permitted. Ramona accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized by Reverend Carl Whitacre. Ramona was preceded in death by her husband, Mag; her parents, Walter and Ruth and her brother, Herman. She is survived by her son, Bill; her daughter-in-law, Kristin; two grandchildren, Kyle and Kandi Coleman, Roscoe; relatives and friends. Graveside services were Saturday, April 8, at the Rocoe Cemetery with Greg Mangum officiating. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

The funeral for Dora Marshall Coley, 88, of Gallatin, will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday from the chapel of Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Felix Snell and Rev. Randy Brown officiating. Francis Eugene Colley, a resident of Lowry City since his birth October 28, 1920 passed away May 6, 2008. "Gene" was preceded in death by his parents, James Alvin and Vida Catherine Colley, also lifetime residents of Lowry City. For those who knew Gene he was described as "the nicest man I have ever met". His quiet strength and integrity made this man. Gene served his country during WWII as a radio/gunner in the United States Air Force flying missions over France. In his military diary he speaks of flying to Casablanca, sleeping on the African coast, seeing Bob Hope in a USO show and several heroic missions flown by his crew. In 1945 he married Mary Lucille Moran. Sixty two years of marriage produced several happy memories, the happiest being the birth of their two sons, Jim in 1951 and Terry in 1956. Gene was a deacon and active member of the Lowry City Christian Church and after it closed became active in the Park Grove Christian Church. His love of God, generosity and leadership were attributes we all enjoyed. Life-long residents of Lowry City will not soon forget their daily visits to the post office where Gene served for more than 30 years. In the beginning he flagged the mail train with lanterns to advise them of the huge bags of mail that needed delivered to their final destinations. All of us remember our shared cups of coffee with Gene as we stood around the mail counter. Gene's influence lives on in the hearts of his wife, Mary of Lowry City, his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Cindy of Blue Springs and Terry and Donna of Liberty, his granddaughters, Melissa and Alaina, also of Liberty; his older brother Earl of Syracuse, NY, other relatives and many, many friends. Services will be Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with burial in the Lowry City Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.

Alexis Ann Collins, age 5, of Nevada, died as the result of an accident on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at her father's home in Tiffin, Mo. She was born on July 27, 2001, in Nevada, to Randall Lee Collins Jr. and Carol Jean Smith Collins. Alexis was a kindergarten student at Bryan Elementary School in Nevada. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Alexis enjoyed sports and fishing and had a love for pets and farm animals. Alexis is survived by her mother, Carol Pennington, and stepfather, James Pennington, of the home in Nevada; her brother, Randy Collins III, of the home; her grandparents, Bill and Jeanie Smith, of Nevada, Randall Lee Collins, Sr. of Tiffin, Mo., and Joe and Lynna Pennington of Jasper, Mo.; great-grandparents, Marietta Collins of Osceola, Mo., Carol and Henry Geiger of Sterling, Okla., and Floyd Smith, Lawton, Okla., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins including an uncle Billy Smith of Nevada. Her father, Randall Lee Collins Jr., and her grandmother, Elaine Collins, also lost their lives in the accident. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, with Joseph Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on this evening at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Again the death angel has visited the home of C.F. Collins and taken from their embrace a darling wife and fond mother. Bertha H. was born January 19, 1870 and left this world April 8, 1911, age 41 years, two months, eight days. She was converted about 20 years ago and was sanctified six years later. She lived a truly consecrated life, testifying as opportunity afforded her, to a full and complete salvation. She was taken sick on Sunday night, April 2 with pneumonia, lingered until Saturday morning 7:00 o’clock. About 3:00 o’clock previous, she kissed her children goodbye and gave the older ones warning to prepare to meet God and advised what she wanted done with the little ones. The death angel has entered the home and taken our sister, Bertha Collins, born January 19, 1870, died April 8, 1911. She was married to C.F. Collins in 1887. There were ten children – four dead and six living. Sister Collins was only sick five days, but her suffering was severe. She had the pneumonia fever. She was converted about twenty years ago. Six years later was sanctified and lived a faithful Christian life until her death. Was always ready to testify to the saving powers of Jesus. Before her death she prayed and told each member of the family good-bye and said she was going to rest and for us to meet her in heaven. Sister Collins was brought to the Love Mound near Leila, Mo. The funeral services were conducted by Bro. Worthington and Bro. Lancaster. Reading Ps. 116:15 for the text. There was a large assembly of friends and relatives which will one day have to pay the same debt for “it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment.” Her body was then laid away to await the resurrection morning. Pray for the unsaved, bereaved ones that they may prepare to meet mother and that those who are saved may be true to God, and follow in the footsteps of Jesus. “Whosoever will let him take of the water of life freely.” – Rev. 22:17. Doug Collins, 55, of Colum-bia, was born on Dec. 10, 1952, and passed away at his home on July 18, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. Doug retired in 2007 after 35 years of service to CenturyTel. An avid sportsman, Doug loved hunting, fishing and spending time on the family farm. Doug is survived by his wife, Judy, his three children, two stepdaughters, a sister, Beverly Breeden – El Dorado Springs, a brother, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Ruby Collins, and a grandson, Luke Collins Lewis. No formal services will be held. Celebrations of Doug's life will be held in Osceola from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the shelter houses and in Ashland from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 from 6-9 p.m. in Ashland City Park. Frances Louisa Racer Collins, daughter of Jonas and Verinda Racer, was born March 3 in  Indiana, adn died May 31, 1928 at her home near Osceola, Missouri, being at the time of her death 77 years, 2 months and 28 days of age. She moved with her parents to Missouri at the age of four years. She was married March 17, 1874 to James Collins. To this union eleven children were born - one sone preceded his mother to the Great Beyond, dying in infancy. She leaves to mourn their loss her aged companion, four sons - Willie, George, Ralph and Marion, all of near Osceola; six daughters - Laura Jones, Elizabeth Powell, Anna Jones, Dollie Hoover, Mila Greathouse, of near Osceola, and Beatrice Simpson of Lowry City; two sisters, Alice Bourland and Lucinda Burnsides of Osceola; and one brother, John Racer. She is also survived by fifty grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren who loved her as an own grandmother, and a host of other relatives and friends.

COLLINS, James K.

James K. Collins was born near Iconium in St. Clair County, Oct.4, 1851 and passed on to his heavenly home April 2, 1933 after an illness of more than two years. Uncle Jim, as he was generally called, had lived in the Hoover Coal Mine district some sixty years. He was united in wedlock to Frances L. Racer on March 22, 1874. To this union were born eleven children. All of the children are living except one who died in infancy. His wife passed away to that Crystal City May 31, 1928. Uncle Jim leaves one brother, John C. Collins of Clinton and two sisters, Mrs. F. W. Dempsey of Springfield and Mrs. Ben Bristow of Havelock. N.D. Besides his ten children, he is survived by 54 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. In the year 1909 he was converted in a brush arbor erected near his home. Some days later he was sanctified wholly and was a living witness to what God can do. The funeral was preached by Elder Smith of LaHarpe, Kansas Monday afternoon. He was laid to rest in the cemetery near Cook's Chapel. Uncle Jim will be greatly missed by his maany friends.

Randall Lee "Randy" Collins, Jr., 35, was born on March 31, 1971 in El Dorado Springs. Randy perished in a house fire early Saturday morning along with his mother, Elaine Collins and daughter, Alexis. He attended school in El Dorado and later became a third generation truck driver, following his father and grandfather's footsteps.
He was the proud daddy of Randy III and Alexis Ann. Randy enjoyed trucking, helping others and spending time with his two children. Randy is survived by son, Randall Collins III, age nine of El Dorado Springs; finace, Lonna Townsend; father, Randall L. Collins, Sr.; and sisters, Diana Hudson, El Dorado Springs, Donna Stewart, Walnut Grove, Dorothy Graves, Cole Camp, Bonnie Bowman, El Dorado Springs and Brenda Vandenberg, Springfield; his paternal grandmother, Maretta Collins, Osceola along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Shirley W. Collins, age 82, of Osceola, Mo., a retired St. Clair County Sheriff, died at 1:55 a.m. May 22, 2004, in his home. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in Osceola Cemetery, Osecola, Mo., under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Twin Lakes Hospice of St. Clair Co. Home Health.

COLSON, Alma Ruth Zink
Alma Ruth (Zink) Colson, daughter of Isaac Thomas and Della Frances (Yonce) Zink, was born November 17, 1914 east of Appleton City, Missouri, less than a mile from where she was presently living. She passed away April 11, 2004 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri at 89 years of age. Ruth attended country schools and graduated from Appleton City High School. She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Appleton City in the fall of 1927 accepting Christ as her Savior. On December 24, 1930 she was united in marriage with Kermit Lee Colson. In 1936 they moved to California where she worked during the day and attended college at night. In 1939 they moved to the central San Joaquin Valley. During the war Ruth worked at the Air Force base where Lee was stationed. In the fall of 1980 they moved back to Missouri living in the Springfield area until 1992 when they built a new home on AA Highway near Appleton City. Ruth was employed by General Motors dealers for 20 years as office manager and accountant. In 1972 she went back to work for four years as office manager for Couture Farms. Mrs. Colson was a 45 year member and past Matron of Lily of the Lake Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star in Lemore, California, she also served the California Grand Chapter in several capacities including Deputy Grand Matron. She was a 50 year member and past president of Lemore American Legion Auxiliary Post #100, a member of Sharon Temple #92 Daughters of the Nile in Fresno, California. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years; two brothers, Andrew and Hazel Zink; two nephews Kenneth Zink and Bill Colson; and two nieces Evelyn Dines and Jane Zink. Survivors include two nephews, Donald Lee Colson of Tulare, California and Stanley Zink of Appleton City, Missouri; five nieces, Betty Lou Payne of Roanoke, Texas, Janet Colson of Tulare, California Carolyn Kelsay of Urich, Missouri, Bettie Zink of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Carolyne Colson of Deepwater, Missouri; one sister-in-law Margaret Colson of Urich, Missouri; and a brother-in-law Walter (Bill) Colson of Tulare, California.

Lottie Geraldine Combs was born Jan. 15, 1933 in California, one of thirteen children born to Leonard and Nellie [Dunermouth] Hackney. She passed away November 6, 2008 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City. She was united in marriage to Boyd Cunningham and to this union five children were born. Boyd preceded her in death after 26 years of marriage. Later she married Melvin D. Combs. They were married for 27 wonderful years. Lottie was, also, preceded in death by her son, Russell D. Cunningham and one grandson, James Ryan Clegg. Lottie is survived by her loving husband, Melvin, of the home; sons William Cunningham, Osceola, Stephen Cunningham and wife, Paula, Belton, Ricky and wife Theresa, Belton,; daughter Rebecca Clegg and Shawn Scrivner, Osceola; 19 grandchildrene; 26 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Services were Monday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. The officiant was Stephanie Smith. Casketbearers were Corey Cunningham, Shane Cunningham, Jesse Cunningham, Shawn Scrivner, Clete Cunningham and Brandon Clegg. Bernieta Mae Cone, 81, was born in Vista on Nov. 15, 1924, the daughter of Leonard and Rosie Harper Hochstedler. She passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Milan Healthcare Facility in Milan. Bernieta attended the Dillon School, got a GED to finish high school and took some college classes. She was united in marriage to Bernard Louis Cone on March 16, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan., when he was home on leave during WWII. To this union, two children were born, David and Sandrea. Bernieta was saved and baptized in the First Baptist Church of Osceola. She was active in church and community activities. Some of them were Boy Scout den mother, PTA, Osceola Community Betterment and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Bernieta was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved nature, fishing, writing poetry and did crafts. She also enjoyed playing her guitar, Jew's harp and harmonica for family and friends.
Bernieta was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Rosie Hochstedler; one brother, Nolan Hochstedler; one sister, Berniece Gilbert; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Bernieta is survived by her loving husband, Bernard, of the home; her son, David and his wife, Chris, Columbia; her daughter, Sandy Kottwitz and her husband, Anthony, Unionville; eight grandchildren, Matt Cone, Springfield, Mindy Kopser and her husband, Chad, Denver, Colo., Bryan Kottwitz and his wife, Cari, Trenton, Andrew Kottwitz and his fiance Emily Kendrick, Kirksville, Steven Kottwitz, Unionville, Nathan Kottwitz and his fiance, Jamie Leafgreen, Trenton, Christopher and Jessie Kottwitz, Unionville; two sisters, Marie Knight and her husband, Tom and Kathy Tillotson and her husband, Ken, all of Osceola; one brother, Eugene Hochstedler and his wife, Ina Lee, Temple, Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services were held Sunday, June 4, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Greg Mangum officiating. Music was "Have Thine Own Way Lord" with vocalist Gail Ingle and "Amazing Grace" with vocalists Cari Kottwitz and Jamie Leafgreen, accompanied by Gail Ingle. Other musical selections played were "Just As I Am", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "In the Sweet By and By".
Poems were read by two of her grandsons, Bryan and Nathan Kottwitz. Casketbearers were her grandsons, Matt Cone, Bryan Kottwitz, Andrew Kottwitz, Steven Kottwitz, Nathan Kottwitz, Chris Kottwitz and nephews, Rick Knight and Fred Knight. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery under the arrangements of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Irma Cone, age 60, of Osceola, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009 at her home. Irma was a beloved wife to Larry, mother to Vickie and Eddie, grandmother [or Me-Mee] to Jake, Faith, Gloria and Luke and sister to seven siblings, Joe Lewis Brizuela, Leticia Martinez, Gilbert Brizuela, Phillip Brizuela, Eva Brizuela and Ruby Brizuela. Irma was born august 13, 1948 in West Covina, California and moved to Osceola after meeting and and marrying Larry Cone in February 1968. Irma was preceded in death by her father Porfirio Brizuela [Ortiz], her mother Tomasa Brizuela and sister Ruby Brizuela. Irma was a member of the Osceola First Assembly of God Church. She worked for 27 years at the Rival Plant in Clinton. Most recently she began working for the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in the cafeteria. Irma will be missed by all she came in contact with. She received Christ as her Lord and Savior in November 1975. Services were Tuesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church. Ministers were Rev. Danny Fergerson and Rev. Alan Balmer. Music was "I'll Fly Away" and "Power in the Blood" provided by Richard Sunderwirth, soloist and "Blessed Assurance" by the congregation and Gail Ingle, accompanist. Casketbearers were Mark Cone, Jack Jennings, Jason Jennings, Faron Clark, John Graham and Rick Reed. Honorary casketbearers were Noel Clark, Stanley Christopher and Mark Rucker. Interment was at Kidd's Chapel Cemetery.

Juanita V. Conrad, 83, Clinton, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 31, at the First Christian Church, Clinton, with burial in Iconium Cemetery. Juanita was born in Wisdom. She was married to Kirby F. Conrad and he preceded her in death November 28, 1988. She was a member of the first Christian Church of Clinton. She is survived by one daughter, Lois Foster and husband Billy A.; two sons, Dewey Conrad and wife Darlene, and Larry Conrad and wife Paula; one sister, Leona Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rae Scott and Louise Conrad, all of Clinton, as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

CONRAD, Murry T.
Murray Conrad died about 7:30 p.m. March 2, 1939, at the St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City where he had been taken the Friday before from the Clinton Community Clinic Hospital. Mr. Conrad became ill on February 18, while in Clinton and was treated by a physician. That evening, as he was going with a neighbor, Claude Dean, to his home southeast of Clinton, he suffered another attack and was taken back to the hospital by Mr. Dean, where his ailment was thought to be encephalitis and everything possible was done, but he remained unconscious most of the time. After he was taken to St. Luke's, he was believed to be better and his sudden death came as a shock. His twin brother, Kirby, accompanied him to the hospital and remained until the end. A post mortem examination revealed a burst blood vessel on the brain which had sealed over, probably preventing instant death. He was born October 15, 1912, in Kansas City, Kans., and moved with his parents two years later to near Chalk Level and Lowry City where he lived until 1931, then came to Henry County where he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Frank Hall, about two years, then started farming for himself. He is survived by his twin and sister above mentioned who lived near him; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Kinser, of Torrance, Calif.; brother Howard Conrad, of Troutdale, Ore.; his father, Kirby Conrad, Sr., near Lowry City, and his step-mother.
Mr. Conrad was held in high esteem in his community for he was a progressive and industrious young farmer; a thrifty husbandman of his land and stock. He was a good neighbor, ever ready to help no matter what the task. He repaid with deep and lasting affection, the care his oldest sister, Mrs. Hall gave him after the death of their mother when he was seven. Private funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Wilkinson Funeral Chapel by Rev. A. S. Olsen. Burial at Concord Cemetery, near Lowry City.

Marilyn Sue Cook, 58, Montrose, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in Clinton. Marilyn was born, raised and made her home in Montrose. She was the daughter of Howard Slocum and Nellie Viola (Sullivan) Thomas. After marrying in 1964 she spent her time as a homemaker, devoting her life to raising her two sons. In 1988 Marilyn began working at Zenith Fireworks in Clinton. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and those who were touched by her loving and caring personality. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Willard and Glen Thomas. Survivors include her two sons, Barry Cook and wife Thea, Kansas City, and Ryan Cook and wife Kelly, Harrisonville; four brothers, Floyd and Ward Thomas, both of Independence, Marvin Thomas of Lee's Summit, Dennis Thomas, Blue Springs; two sisters, Donna Pratt, Shawnee, Kansas, and Evelyn Huke, Lee's Summit; one granddaughter, Jessica Althouse, Montrose; three grandsons, Joshua Rupprecht and Carson Cook, both of Kansas City, and Dakota Wise, Harrisonville; 12 nephews, five nieces and many great-nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, on Wednesday, March 12. Burial was in Appleton City Cemetery.

Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997  - Marvin "Tiny" Cook , former Harvard resident Marvin "Tiny" Cook, 55 of rural York died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at his home. Services were Friday at Metz Mortuary chapel in York. Additional services were Saturday at Church of Christ in Collins, Mo. with the Revs. Alan Kaufman and J.W. Martin officiating. Burial was in Robinson Cemetery near Collins. Mr. Cook was born Feb. 19, 1942, to James and Norma (Sarratt) Cook in Collins. On Sept. 30, 1978, he married Gwendolyne Gage on a farm near Waco. He was a school bus driver for York Public Schools. He sang and played the guitar at functions in many Nebraska communities. Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Samantha Cook of York and Sheri Kemmen and Lori Wilson, both of Missouri; two sons, Jeffrey and Michael, both of Missouri; his mother of Collins; one sister, Donna Cook of Collins; one brother, Terry of Collins; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Our people in general were deeply grieved Saturday morning when the word was circulated that Miss Mary Cook had died during the night. The deceased had been making a heroic fight against that fatal disease – consumption – which had set its claim upon her early last spring. It had been the sincere hope of all that the life of this very estimable Christian character might be spared to her family, her church and the community, but a higher power whose law is immutable and whose will is divine, had decreed otherwise and the end came, that she might enter into eternal life. Mary Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cook, was born March 10, 1886, and passed away Sept. 17, 1909. In her death the parents have lost a loving child, her church a devoted member and the community a true Christian life. Deceased was a member of the M.E. Church South and until sickness prevented was faithful in her attendance and church work. Funeral services conducted by the pastor Rev. G.L. Coffman, were held at the M.E. Church South, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The remains were followed to their final resting place in the city cemetery, by a large number of friends who gathered to pay a last farewell to the remains and show their sympathy to the bereaved family.

Paul L. Cook Jr., 76, of Columbia passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Paul was born on Oct. 2, 1929, in St. Louis to Paul L. and Ethel E. Cook, and they preceded him in death. Paul married Hazel Burdick on Feb. 11, 1950, and she survives. Paul graduated from New Franklin High School. He managed the Kroger Store from 1966 to 1972 and owned the IGA Store in Warrenton for several years before working for and retiring from Ameren UE. Paul was a member of the Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia. He enjoyed working on his Montgomery County farm. His hobbies included golf and especially billiards. Paul is survived by his wife, Hazel; two sons; a daughter; two sisters, Alice Freese and Maggie Snell; and many family and friends from southern California to northern New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Cook; one brother, James Cook; two sisters, Pauline Kelleher and Virginia Cook; and one grandchild.

March 11, 1922 - July 10, 2008. Harold Levi Coones, age 86, of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. He was born on March 11, 1922, in Benton County, Missouri, the son of Benjamin and Pearl Fern Johnston Coones. He was raised in Benton County on Z highway and lived his retirement years about a mile further down on his 154 acres called Coones Crossing. On October 5, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army, serving during World War II seeing action in four major battles. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1945. In 1948 he was married to Veneda Faye Coke Anglin. They made their home around Appleton City and Montrose where Harold was a coal miner, working a total of 44 years in the coal mines He was employed by Pittsburg and Mid-Way Coal Mines of Appleton City. His work took them to Kentucky where they lived until he retired from P & M Colonial Coal Mines and they returned to their vacation cabin on Z highway where they made their home. Harold attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church where his parents worshiped before him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Coones, a daughter Wanita Adams, son, William Anglin I, his parents, three brothers, Walter Coones, Frank Ervine Coones, and Olin Coones, a sister, Noy Mantoyna, a great-grandson, John F. Foster and a great-granddaughter, Leslie Trotter, two great-great-grandchildren, Sarena and Alicia Martinez, and three nephews, Kenneth Coones, Ray Coones, and Jim Maupin. Surviving are four children, Norman Lee Coones of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, and Patricia Ann Coones Foster of Warsaw, Lowell Anglin of Madisonville, Kentucky and Mary Purdy of Clinton, 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Norman Coones of Clinton, other relatives and friends. Last rites for Charles M. Cooper, 66, Osceola, who died Aug. 9, after several years illness, were conducted Aug. 12, at Osceola by the Rev. Herb Zeller, Stet, Mo. Pallbearers were nephews, Bobby Mills, Warrensburg; Eldon Mills, Montana, Kan.; Jimmy Hillegas, Kansas City; Larry Cooper, Clinton; Woodrow Bray, Lowry City; and Keith Cooper, Huron, S.D. Interment was in Osceola Cemetery. Charles Madison Cooper, son of May and Willard Cooper, was born Nov. 2, 1896, on a farm near Chalk Level. He attended Chalk Level elementary school and Lowry City High School. In his early life he attended Kidd's Chapel Church and supported it in later years. Cooper served in the US Army in World War I. He was a member of Ozark Ramblers Barracks No. 704, Lowry City and of Emerson Bell Post of the American Legion 291, Osceola. For a number of years he was a salesman for Poindexter and Company, Kansas City, and traveled over a number of mid-western states. He was a bookkeeper for The Texas Empire Pipe Line, and in 1936 became associated with the C.M. Pasley Auction Company. He was with them until his health began to fail. At the time of his death he was affiliated with the Osceola Abstract and Loan Company, Osceola. Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his father in 1914 and his mother in 1934, two brothers, Jesse in 1953 and Page in 1963. He leaves a brother, George, Appleton City; six sisters, Mrs. Dowdy Shoemaker, Lowry City; Mrs. L.P. Moree, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Roy Hillegas, Lowry City; Mrs. E.J. McGinnis, Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Raymond Hicks, Osawatomie, Kan.; Mrs. Verne Childs San Diego, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Elmer Elsworth Copenhaver, 89, were held Sunday at the Roscoe Christian church with the Rev. J.B. Kirkland officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Springs cemetery under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home. Mr. Copenhaver, the youngest son of Thomas and Emmaline Copenhaver, was born October 14, 1868, near Roscoe, and died at the Osceola Medical hospital on February 21. He spent his entire life in and near Roscoe, except for a few years spent in Montana and other western states. Laura Wisner was born in the Bear Creek neighborhood, St. Clair County, April 29, 1867, died at Osceola, February 15, 1929, age 61 years, 9 months and 16 days. She was united in marriage with James Wesley Corbin, December 29, 1886. To this union were born three children, one dying in infancy and two, a son C.A. Corbin and a daughter, Mrs. Grace Corbin Durbin, survive her. Besides her devoted husband and the two above-mentioned children, she leaves nine grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. She professed faith in Christ as her savior and united with the Bear Creek Methodist South Church in 1879. To this church she remained a faithful member to her death. She was taken seriously ill at her home at the store conducted by herself and husband in Osceola, but was removed to her daughter’s at the county farm, where she passed away. Pneumonia was the immediate cause of her death.
A short service was held at the county farm, conducted by Rev. H.E. Carpenter, pastor of the Christian Church in Osceola, a long time friend of the family, after which the remains were taken to the Bear Creek Methodist Church and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. E.F. Burton, the pastor. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery by the church. She was born within less than a mile of this church, died at Osceola; thus her earthly life was spent within a territory comprising less than six miles, but the influence of her life has extended over a very large territory, for all who knew her loved and respected her for the faithfulness and integrity of her life. She was a true wife, a faithful and devoted mother and a friend to all.

He had worked most recently as a manager for Jordan Liquors. Cornell, Sr., 65, Sarcoxie, who died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The Rev. Denzil Thomas will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Housch Funeral Home, Sarcoxie. Survivors include three sons, Norman Cornell, Jr. and wife Michelle, Golden City, Scott Cornell and wife Dena, Aurora, and Chris Cornell and wife Sherry, Alba; a daughter, Jennifer Nielsen and husband Brian, Carthage; eight grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Dobbins, Joplin; a brother, James Cornell, state of California, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Street, and a grandson, Jacob Cornell. Mr. Cornell was born Sept. 18, 1940, in Joplin, the son of James L. Cornell and Olive Mae (Marcus) and Blackie Thompson. He was reared in the Joplin and Sarcoxie areas. He served his country in the United States Air Force and later in the Army. He resided most of his life in the Sarcoxie area, except for a few years of living in Texas and Louisiana. He had various careers throughout his life, either that of a Jasper County Sheriffs Deputy, a Sarcoxie Reserve Officer, operator of Stokers Propane in Sarcoxie, and his most recent position as a finance collector. He was a member of the Sarcoxie United Methodist Church, the Sarcoxie Optimist Club, and the Route 66 Mopar Club. He married Lottie Chew on May 12, 1961. She preceded him in death.

Irene Esther Cornish, daughter of Raymond William and Amalia “Millie” (Pacha) Henzlik, was born in Appleton City, Missouri November 10, 1912. She departed this life February 1, 2006 at Medicalodge in Butler, Missouri at 93 years of age. Irene attended primary and high school at the Appleton City Academy. She continued her education at Bolivar Baptist College and Central Missouri State College at Warrensburg, Missouri. Upon her graduation in 1932 Irene taught at several rural schools in St. Clair County. After her marriage to Caryll M. Cornish June 12, 1935 in Harrisonville, Missouri, Irene devoted her time to being at home and caring for her family which later included two sons. During the early 1960’s she reentered the teaching profession and taught at Symington Elementary School in Ruskin Heights, Missouri until her retirement in 1976. The Cornish’s then returned to Appleton City, Missouri for a few years which allowed Irene time for her lodge duties as well as some travel time with Caryll. She was a member of the First Christian Church, a life member of Rebekah Lodge #724. She also held membership in the Alpha Delta Kappa Professional Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association. Irene moved to Rogers, Arkansas for a few years returning to Appleton City in 1999 where she lived at the Beech Street Apartments until ill health forced her to move to the Medicalodge in Butler, Missouri. Irene will be greatly missed by her family, friends and many acquaintances. Preceeding Irene in death were her parents Ray and Millie Henzlik, her husband Caryll M. Cornish and one brother, Alfred Henzlik. Survivors include her two sons, Gerald Cornish of Elfrida, Arizona and Burton Cornish of Bentonville, Arkansas, two grandsons, Chris and Bret Cornish, one great-grandson Scot Cornish, one sister Mary Ellen Lewis of Gainesville, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Ruth Lavonne Crabtree was born February 28, 1906 near Brownington, Missouri to George and Myrtle Guynn Hood. She passed away Friday, August 28, 1987 at the Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola, Missouri, at 81 years and 6 months of age. Her early life was spent in the Brownington area. Much of her later life was spent in the St. Clair County area near Iconium. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Crabtree on April 2, 1987, a grandson, Billy Crabtree, two brothers, Charley and Clyde Hood, and two sisters, Edith Podpechan and Flossie Park. She is survived by one son, Bill Crabtree and one daughter, Mrs. Sue Shepherd, both of Osceola; two stepsons, Forrest Crabtree of Nashville, Tennessee and Joyce Crabtree of Clinton; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Bruce of Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Estermae Herran of St. Joseph, and Mrs. Norma Larson of Jacksonville, Oregon; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Selma Opal Crabtree was born April 25, 1912, in Iconium to Harrison Stone and Inez Gover Green. She died June 4, 1996, at her home in Blue Springs. On April 28, 1928, Selma was united in marriage to Pierson E. Crabtree. She was a homemaker and had lived in Blue Springs since 1968. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pierson on December 7, 1982. Selma was also preceded in death by a son, Pierson Crabtree, Jr.; her parents; four brothers, Edmond Green, Peyton Green, J. W. Green and Brian Green; one sister, Neola Copenhaver. She is survived by one son, Harold Crabtree of Osawatomie, Ks.; one daughter, Sandra L. Crabtree of Blue Springs; one brother, Tom Green; three sisters, Gladys Hammonds, Virginia Meadows, Elmira Agnew; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were Saturday, June 8. Burial was in Iconium Cemetery.

William Cranfield was born in Cambridge Shire, England, in 1820 and died at the home of his son, James Cranfield, northeast of town Friday, August 3, 1900, at 3:30 a.m. He was married in 1841 to Miss Eliza Nicholes, a resident of the same city in which Mr. Cranfield had lived, and to this union were born nine children, all of them being born in England and six of whom are still living, viz., Mary Jane Parker, of England; William, of Oklahoma; Harry, of Oklahoma; Lizzie Aldridge, of Missouri; Ellen and James, of this vicinity. In the fall of 1873 he started for America with his wife and 6 children, leaving one, Mary Jane Parker, still in England living, and Tillie and Willie both of which died quite small; another daughter, Louisa, died in Missouri in 1882. Mr. Cranfield landed in New York on the 12th day of November, 1870, and from there he moved to Missouri where he resided until the death of his wife in 1889, and since that time Mr. Cranfield had made his home with his son James who resides northeast of the city. Mr. Cranfield had always been a very healthy man and died, 'presumably', of old age, as he had arisen last Friday morning quite early but feeling very weak he again went to bed and in a short time expired without a feeling of pain or sickness. The funeral was held at the residence of James Cranfield on Sunday afternoon, August 5, at 2:30 o'clock, and the exercise conducted by the Rev. D.T. Black of this city. The remains were interred in East cemetery.

Nancy Crawford, 63, Appleton City, formerly of Windsor, died early Sunday morning, November 12, 1995, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. She was born June 30, 1932, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Charles Austin Rector, Sr. and Virginia Maude Owings Rector. On May 26, 1956, in Kansas City, she married William B. (Bill) Crawford, who survives of the home in Appleton City. Mrs. Crawford attended Excelsior Springs schools and the University of missouri at Columbia where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was a homemaker and a member of the Windsor First Christian Church; Windsor Chapter No. 102 O.E.S., and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Melissa Roos and husband, Bob, Appleton City, Julie Engeman and husband, Marvin, Montrose, and Linda Crawford, Arlingotn, Virginia; a brother, Charles Rector, Eudora, Kansas; four grandhcildren, Michael William, Amy Michelle, Ashley Nicole and David. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 14, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery.

Beulah May Creason, former resident of Appleton City, Missouri, was born January 7, 1916 in Dade County. She passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at 8:28 p.m. at the Beachside Nuring Facility in Huntington Beach, Calif. She had been fighting colon cancer since being diagnosed and first operated on in March 2005; a second surgery was performed in September 2005. She fought the good fight but finally reached the end of her journey. She was in the company of loving family members when she joined the Lord. Beulah will be laid to rest along side her husband, Ernest R. Creason, who preceded her in passing. She is suvived by her two children, James R. Creason and Ernestine Knecht who lives in California, 12 surviving grandchildren as well as a sister, Ella Tindill of Appleton City, and three brothers, Don Marlow of Wyoming, Joe Marlow and Howard Marlow of Missouri.
Services were held at Hill and Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Saturday, Aug. 12, with Rev. Tony Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the Deepwater cemetery, Deepwater. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Christian C. Cripe died Sunday morning last and remains were interred at Osceola Cemetery on Monday afternoon. Mr. Cripe was born in Piedmont, Indiana, November 30, 1847, came to Osceola in 1868 locating on site where he died. He was married to Miss Martha J. Hannah on March 24, 1870 and to this union, two children were born. Alvin A. of Osceola and Bert C. of Kansas City, who, together with his wife, survive him.

Christian C. "Chris" Cripe - Christian C. Cripe died on Sunday morning last and the remains were interred in the Osceola cemetery on Monday afternoon, under charge of Dr. B. F. Lawler. Mr. Cripe was born at Peidmont, Ind., Nov 30, 1849, and came to Osceola in 1868, locating on the site on which he died. He was married Miss Martha J. Hannah March 24, 1870, and to this union two children were born, Alvin A. of Osceola and Bert C. of Kansas City, who,together with his wife, survive him. In 1895 he was converted and joined the Baptist church, and remained a faithful member up to his death. Besides his wife and children he is survived by three brothers and two sisters, but they are scattered all over the country and only one brother was present at the time of his death."Chris" Cripe was an honest, hardworking man and a true friend, and in his death Osceola lost an upright citizen, his wife a loving husband and his children a kind and indulgent father. In his own sphere of usefulness he acted well his part and leaves to them the legacy of an honored name.

Mrs. Beulah M. Critchfield, 78, of Osceola, Mo., passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 24, 1990, at her home. Mrs. Critchfield was born near Osceola and was a lifelong area resident.
She was also a special correspondent for the St. Clair County Courier for many years, writing the Bradford news items. She is survived by two sons; Bill Critchfield, of Osceola, Mo., and Jack Critchfield, of Liberty, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Kretchet, of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Emma Frazee, of Paola, Kan., and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial will be in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery near Osceola under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home in Osceola.

CRITTENDEN, Jerry Joe Sanford

USMC (RET.) Jerry Joe Sanford Crittenden was born on October 12, 1931, in Anthony, KS, to Fred and Lois Crittenden. Jerry departed this life on November 8, 2004, at Kansas City, KS. He was the youngest of 14 children of a blended family. His early childhood was spent on a wheat farm in the north central part of Oklahoma. At the beginning of World War II, he moved with his folks to Lawrence, KS, and later to Kansas City, MO, where he graduated from Southeast High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Marcia Pruitt, on October 4, 1952, in Bentonville, AR. Jerry's career with the Marine Corps began on January 19, 1951. He enlisted as a Private and advanced to Major before he retired on January 31, 1971. Jerry served in both Korea and Vietnam and received numerous awards and medals, including the Purple Heart. After retirement, Jerry and Marcia purchased their home, a small acreage, north of Osceola, MO. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working with some of the local farmers and at the sale barn. One of his hobbies was working with stained glass.
Jerry and Marcia loved their Siamese cats and also had a dog after moving to the country. After losing the love of his life on September 30, 1997, and selling his home, he moved to Lowry City, MO, for two years, then moved to the Countryside Estates, an assisted living facility, in Appleton City, MO. He moved to Kansas City, KS, on October 20, 2004, where he remained, with the help of Hospice, until his death. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marcia, his father-in-law Harold Pruitt, five brothers, and four sisters. He is survived by his mother-in-law Vairee Pruitt, Osceola, MO; four sisters, Maude Stomp, Kansas City, MO, Vena Flynn, Raytown, MO, Betty Greenlee and husband John, Kansas City, KS, and Lila Bailey, Kansas City, KS; brother-in-law Mike Pruitt and wife Mary, Quinemo, KS; sister-in-law Pam Wood and husband Bob, Waterloo, IA; three adopted granddaughters, Renee, Melanie, and Makeeshia; very special personal friends Dale and Judy White; and numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of friends. Visitation will be 12-4 p.m. Friday, November 12 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola, MO, with Military Service at 4 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Linn F. Crockett, age 86, of Miller, passed away at 6:10 p.m., Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at his home. Linn was born March 20, 1920, in Iantha, to C.O. and Ethel Brown Crockett. He graduated from Mindenmines High School and served overseas as a medic and clerk in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 29, 1943, at Gold Hill, Ore., he married Anita Suiter. Linn worked for the Missouri State Highway Department for 29 years in several locations. After retiring, he and Anita moved from Nevada to Collins, where they lived until moving to Miller in 1998. He attended the Mt. Vernon Church of the Nazarene.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Anita Crockett, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Cecilia Crockett, Altoona, Ala., Bill and Abigail Crockett, Lockwood and Kenneth and Bonnie Crockett, Collins; a daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Merlin Barnes, Olathe, Kan.; a brother, Robert Crockett, Lamar; a sister, Lois Wagoner, Golden City; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and a sister, Hazel Crockett. A graveside funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 17 at Oakton Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Meredith officiating. Ada and Granville Jackson "Jack" Cross were united in marriage April 16, 1934 in Butler and to this union four sons were born. She was retired from the Empire Gas Company where she had worked as an office manager. During her lifetime Ada had resided in Roscoe, Kansas City and Rockville. She and Jack had made their home in Appleton City where she has remained for over 30 years. Mrs. Cross was a member of the First Baptist Church in Appleton City and had served as Sunday school teacher of the junior high girls, Girls Ambassador leader, and had been the co-leader of the youth department. Preceding Ada in death were her parents, her husband, and one son Kenneth. Survivors include her three sons, Gerald Cross and wife Judy of Appleton City, Wally Cross and his wife Debra of Appleton City and Dennis Cross and his wife Gayle of Camden Point; daughter-in-law Lena Cross of Appleton City; two granddaughters, Kim Dains and Jackie Perry; six grandsons, Jeff, Mike, Doug, Clinton, Chris and Alex Cross; two step-grandsons, Allen Sollars and Tad Heater; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. CROSS, Kenneth J.
Kenneth Jackson Cross, son of Granville Jackson and Ada Mae (Sutton) Cross, was born September 11, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri December 7, 2004 at 67 years of age. Kenneth spent his early life in Independence, Missouri moving to Rockville and then Appleton City, Missouri where he graduated from Appleton City High School in 1955. As a young man Kenneth worked for his brother at the service station, then working for Boeing a few years and finally being employed by U.P.S. for 36 years. Mr. Cross was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday school and driven the church bus for over 20 years. Kenneth and Patty J. Wix were united in marriage September 1, 1956 and to this union two children were born. On December 31, 1983 Kenneth and Lena Sollars were married. Kenneth enjoyed gardening, traveling, bicycling, and attending sales and auctions. Being with his family and friends was of utmost importance to him. Kenneth was preceded in death by his first wife Patty and his father. Survivors include his wife Lena of the home; his two children, Jeff Cross and wife Debbie of Appleton City and Kimberly and husband Darrell Dains of Rockville, Missouri; his mother Ada Cross of Appleton City; three brothers, Gerald Cross and Wally Cross both of Appleton City and Dennis Cross of Camden Point, Missouri; six grandchildren, Steven, Kelli and Derek Cross, and Katie, Isaac and Adam Dains; a step-son Allen Sollars and wife Cindy; a step-daughter Denise and husband Robert Schuchmann; a step-granddaughter Brianne Schuchmann; a step-grandson Brian Sollars; several nieces and nephews.

CROSS, Wallace D.
Wallace Dirl Cross, 64, son of Granville Jackson and Ada Mae (Sutton) Cross, passed away August 14, 2010 at the Kansas City VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Wally was born in Independence, Missouri January 16, 1948 and spent almost all of his life in Appleton City, Missouri. Wally served his country in the U.S. Army between 1965 and 1971. He was stationed in Vietnam where he was an aircraft mechanic. On September 15, 1983 Wally was united in marriage to Debra Rae Worthan in Clinton, Missouri. They were blessed with two children. He worked as a mechanic throughout his life and was employed most recently at Butler Motors in Butler, Missouri. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Appleton City. When he was younger, Wally liked to drive under the #19 in demolition derbies with his nephew Jeff. He always had enjoyed working on cars and was an avid gun collector. He also enjoyed early morning trips to the Blue Inn for coffee with the “boys” to learn all the news. Preceding Wally in death were his parents, one brother Kenneth Cross and one sister-in-law Janice Worthan. CROUCH, Virginia

Miss Virginia Crouch, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Crouch, died in the Springfield hospital December 10, 1913, at 2:30 p.m., after a six weeks illness of typhoid fever, followed b pneumonia and other complications.
She was born in Weaubleau August 30, 1888, her mother dying February 23, 1894, when Miss Virginia was in her sixth year. She completed the curriculum of the Collins Public School, after which her education was finished in Springfield and she has spent the past few years of her life at that place. During her illness every possible attention was given her, but to no avail. Mr. and Mrs. Crouch were at her bedside constantly, and one brother, Stanley, who is teaching at Harper made frequent visits and remained with her during the last week. Another brother, Grover, who is in the west, could not be present, and her baby brother, Courtney, 1 ½ years of age, remained with relatives in Collins. These loving parents and brother at her bedside rendering all the relief, comfort and cheer in their power, but her frail body was too weak to sustain the struggle longer and she quietly and peacefully sank into the rest that knows no awaking. Brief funeral services were conducted in Springfield at 8 p.m., December 10, by Dr. Bacon of the Presbyterian Church of Springfield, at the home of Mrs. Jones, a devoted and personal friend. The remains were brought to her home in Collins, Thursday, December 11, and funeral services were conducted at the family residence December 12, at 11 a.m. by Rev. Cameron of the Christian Church of Springfield. Interment took place in the Freeman cemetery. Besides the immediate family she leaves an aged grandfather and grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Hardy, pioneer residents of Hickory County but of late years residents of St. Clair, the grandmother being too feeble to attend the funeral services of the loved granddaughter who had so often and so lovingly administered to her in her infirmities and who always preferred the society of "grandmother" to that of other associates, and who by her cheerful disposition brightened many a weary hour for her. She also leaves many relatives and friends who can never fill the void left by her who was always thoughtful of others before herself. While she lay ill in Springfield, her room was daily supplied with flowers by anxious and loving friends, and in her thoughtful generosity she always sent part of them to others who were afflicted and after she became so weak that flowers could no longer be allowed in her room, she requested that they be sent to various other sufferers. While her remains lay at rest in her home the casket was covered by an immense floral design contributed by her young associates in Springfield. A floral cross and pillow stood at the head of the casket and the room was filled with bouquets, floral designs and wreaths, signifying in a silent way the high esteem in which she was held by her many friends. The interior of her grave was lined with white and sprigs of evergreen and when the white casket was lowered into it, it seemed a fitting resting lace for her who had so pure and spotless a life, and the complete grave of flowers and evergreens portrayed more plainly than words how she had ever strewn flowers and loving words in the pathway of all with whom she came in contact. The Rebekah Lodge of Collins of which she was a member took charge of the ceremonies at the cemetery, and in an impressive manner paid their last loving tributes of affection to her whom they had known and loved as a sister, yet they can never know what delicate regard, what fidelity of friendship, what gentle magnanimity, what angelic patience has gone with her into the grave.

Haldor Lee Crowder was born November 25, 1923 on the family farm in St. Clair County, Missouri. He was the son of Oliver Kilburn, Sr. and Rosa Lee (Davis) Crowder. Mr. Crowder passed away peacefully at his home near Appleton City, Missouri May 13, 2008 at 84 years of age. Haldor and Edith Zeiler were united in marriage September 9, 1945 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City by Reverend G.A. Moss. The Crowders were blessed with two daughters. Haldor spent his entire life on the family farm doing what he enjoyed best - farming. He was a member of the Church of God (Holiness) in Appleton City where he served on the Board of Trustees and was the Property Trustee of the church. He had also served as a member of the Appleton City School Board. Preceding Haldor in death were his parents; three brothers O.K. Crowder, Jr., David Crowder and Allen Crowder; and a nephew Don Crowder. Marie Annabelle Crowder passed April 5, 2008, of a prolonged illness, while residing at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Missouri. She was the eldest of her family's eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elsie [Smith] Lego, a little girl Janckie Lynn, one sister, Opal, her first husband, Clyde Herine and three brothers, Bud, Jimmy Lee and Jay. Marie is survived by her husband, Jack Crowder, and her daughter, Debra Horine, both of the home; a daughter, Sue Krum of Peculiar, Missouri; two grandsons, Matt and Michael Krum; four stepchildren, Larry Crowder of Greenfied, Eddie and Lynn Crowder of Overland Park, Kansas, Wanda and David Franco of Grandview and Edna and Richard Peterson of Peculiar; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie grew up around her uncle Ray's Smith Bend farm near Iconium nd the Osceola area. As a young women, she traveled to Kansas City to work, later returning to Osceola where she worked as a waitress at the local restaurants and later as a certified nurses aid at Sac-Osage Hospital until she married Jack and because a full time homemaker. Services were held Tuesday, April 8, at the Sheldon Chapel, Osceola, with Rev. Scott Hill officiating.  Music included "Peace in the Valley" and "Rock of Ages" by Matt and Donna Carney and Dennis Durnell. Casketbearers were David Franco, John Boyd, Aaron Franco, Matt Krum,Doug Pyeatt and Michael Krum. Interment was at Smith Bend Cemetery.

Jose was the son of Heleodoro Cruz and Anita Arzate of Michoacan, Mexico. Jose was born in El Terrero Prieto, Michoacan, Mexico, on June 21, 1954. Jose Luis Cruz-Arzate, 51, departed this life on Feb. 28, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. He is survived by his wife, Patti Wilhite Cruz; mother, Anita Arzate of Portland, Ore.; brother Primitivo Cruz of Portland, Ore., and his family; sisters, Maria Mercedes Cruz, Yolanda Cruz, Gabriela Cruz, Maria Noe Cruz, Ramona Cruz and Simona Cruz and their families of Portland, Ore.; Jorge Luis Cruz, who is like a son and his family of Portland, Oregon; eldest daughter, Angela Louise Cruz Gonzalez and her husband Michael of McMinneville, Ore.; son, Jose Alejandro Cruz of Springfield; youngest daughter, Brenda Jane Cruz of Osceola; along with four grandchildren, Maria Angelica Gonzalez, Michael III Gonzalez, Benito Gonzalez and Maya-Nani Gonzalez; and many nieces and nephews. Jose served in the Mexican Marine Corps in Veracruz, Mexico. In 1974, Jose ventured to the United States and worked very hard to raise support for his family in Mexico. In 1980, he met and married Patti Jo Wilhite despite many obstacles including language and culture. He worked at Komfort Industries in Portland, Ore., for over 20 years building RVs. He moved his family to Missouri in 1998, where he started workign at Elders RV in Montrose. In 2002, Jose started work at Superior Lumber in El Dorado Springs. He thoroughly enjoyed working outside, close to God's creation. He was saved at a Billy Graham crusade in Portland, Ore. in the late 1990s. He was baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church of Quincy. He was a member at the First Baptist Church of Lowry City at the time of his death. However, he thoroughly enjoyed attending Men's Prayer Breakfasts regardless of denomination. He frequently attended prayer breakfasts at Park Grove Christian Church, Ohio Christian Church and Roscoe Christian Church with his "Mexican Ketchup" in his pocket. He often commented how much he enjoyed the prayer breakfasts. Services were held Friday, March 3 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jeff Ferguson and Rev. Steve Elsey. Music that was chosen to be played was "Bueno Es El", ("He Is Good"), "Ten Thousand Years", "No More Night" and "Yes I Know". Casket bearers were Jose A. Cruz, Thomas O. Morris, Jeffrey I. Morris, Jorge L. Cruz, Primitivo Cruz and Danial L. Morris. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with arrangements by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

CUEVAS, Reynldo Delarosa

Reynaldo DeLaRosa Cuevas was born Nov. 13, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas to Bernard and Hermina [DeLaRosa] Cuevas and passed awaay on Feb 11, 2008 at his home. At the age of 18, Rey enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country in the Korean war. Despite wounds received in battle, he continued his career in the military until receiving an honorable discharge. Hee then began his life journey as a husband, a father and a friend. Rey is survived by his wife, Evelyn [Eva] Cuevas, daughters Rebecca Cuevas, Sylvia Villanueva, Sheila Mayden, Connie Casten'o, Jenette Reyes, Virginia Burris and sons Andrew Cuevas,Reynaldo Cuevas, Ruben Cuvas, 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many other friends and family. He enjoyed managing the town laundromat, watching television and spending time with loved ones.
Reynaldo Cuevas will be greaty missed but never forgotten as he touched the lives of so many people.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 15 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Officiated by Minister Greg Mangum.
Music selections played were "Amazing Grace" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain". Military honors were given by VFW Post #1163 and Olson-Frary-Burkhart. Interment was in the Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Dolly Carol Culver, the daughter of Clyde and Odetta (McMurphy) Neal, was born on September 23, 1939 in Henry County, Missouri. She passed away at Ellett memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri on April 24, 2008 at the age of 68 years. Dolly lived most of her life in the Henry County, Missouri area where she worked for Calhoun Hatchery, the meat locker in Montrose, Ted Conrad Agency, City of Montrose and the Truman Lake Water District. She was united in marriage to Floyd Culver on June 1, 1968 in Montrose, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Doll and Wanda Helm, and a brother, Bud Neal. She is survived by her husband Floyd Culver of Montrose, Missouri, a son Tim Culver and wife Deborah, and one granddaughter Megan Culver, all of Montrose, Missouri. Step-grandchildren James Iliff Jr. of Clinton, Missouri, Christina Powers of Emma, Missouri, Betty Hursman of Sweet Springs, Missouri and Jennifer Foose of Emma, Missouri, and numerous step-great grandchildren. Dolly was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and was well known around Montrose as a friend and source of information. Floyd E. Culver, December 13, 1923 - July 24, 2009. - Floyd E. Culver, son of James Sylvester and Edna L. (Hancock) Culver, was born in Appleton City, Missouri December 13, 1923. He passed away July 24, 2009 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri at 85 years of age. As a young boy he and his brother, Elvin, attended grade school at Browning School, later attending and graduating from Appleton City High School in May 1942. He was drafted in December of 1942 and stationed in Germany where he served as a medic near the front line. Soon after his discharge in 1945 Floyd was married and had a daughter, Connie. Connie had two sons that Floyd loved and cared about very much. Later in his life he met and married Dolly Neal who changed his life forever. Dolly had a son that Floyd loved and raised as his own. Floyd and Dolly’s family lived on a farm outside Appleton City where they raised hogs, chickens, row crops, cattle and horses. In 1982 the Culvers moved to town and Floyd took a job as a policeman in Montrose where he was liked and respected by most. During his lifetime he did and tried many things. He learned guitar and enjoyed playing. He proudly joined the Masonic Lodge and worked to become a member of the Ararat Shrine. He also loved to hunt, garden and liked to tinker with radios. He drove a propane truck for Webster Gas and sold insurance. He was a member of the NRA, the VFW and had served on the Montrose School Board. Floyd loved his two cats, Felix and Alley. He had a good sense of humor and loved to joke with friends and didn’t mind having a joke played on him. In his last years he called Appleton City Manor home and liked it there, feeling that he was treated like family. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents James and Edna, his stepmother Rosa (Blakley) Culver, his wife Dolly C. Culver, his daughter Connie Schneider, and his brother Elvin Culver. Survivors include his son Tim R. Culver and wife Deborah, his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Jim Arendt, numerous grandchildren including Megan Culver and Shane and Travis Schneider and numerous great-grandchildren.

CUMMINS, Hazel Ruth Richtor

Hazel Ruth Cummins, 98, was born on March 2, 1908, to Ambrose and Freda Albright Richtor and passed away on May 5, 2006, at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City. Hazel was united in marriage to Marion K. Cummins and they spent 56 happily married years together. Much of their married life was spent in the Wright’s Creek community near Lowry City. Hazel will be missed by many in this community. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, on Nov. 21, 1992, and by her parents. Graveside services for Hazel were Wednesday, May 10, at the Wright’s Creek Cemetery with Greg Mangum officiating, under the directions of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

CUNNINGHAM, Arthur Lee

Arthur Lee (Jack) Cunningham, son of Frank Eli and Louise A. Sproull Cunningham, was born May 3, 1925 in Appleton City and passed away October 11, 1991 at the Medical Center of Delaware in Newark, Delaware at the age of 66 years. Jack served his country during World War II in the Navy. After his discharge, he went to work for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Ks. as an accountant, later transferring to Philadelphia where he retired from Boeing in 1986 after 43 years of service. He and his wife lived in Claymond, Delaware where he spent the last 26 years of his life. His love of airplanes was continued in his leisure time as he took great joy and price in building and flying model airplanes. Jack was united in marriage to Betty Sue Mead on May 3, 1945 in Kansas City, and to this union one son was born. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Appleton City. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one niece. He is survived by his wife, Sue of the home; his son, John Lee Cunningham of Los Angeles, Ca.; one sister, Loreta Harmon of Raytown; 2 nephews, Charles Reasoner of Kansas City, Ks. and Ray Reasoner of Kansas City; 1 niece, Nora Russell of Kansas City; 2 grand nephews and 3 grand nieces. Graveside services were held at the Appleton City Cemetery on Tuesday, October 15.

CURTIS, Timothy

Timothy Curtis, 21, of Unionville, passed away on October 6, 2008 at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton, after complications following an automobile accident. Timothy Curtis was born on March 31, 1987 in Osceola, the son of Michael and Wanda [Kottwitz] Curtis. After graduating from Putnam County High School in 2005, Timothy went on to study accounting at North central Missouri College while working for PSF at the Terre Haute facilities. Timothy accepted Christ into his life on March 9, 1997. In addition to his parents, Timothy is survived by grandmothers, Margaret Kottwitz of Osceola and Joann Curtis of LaMonte; sisters Amy Schneider and husband Eric of Sedalia, Trisha Frost and husband Jerry of Green City, Kansas, Kim Lewis and husband Russell of Milan, and April Curtis of Unionville; nephews ezra Schneider, Ephraim Schneider, Elijah Lewis, one niece, Jadyn Lewis, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Timothy was preceded in death by his grandfathers George Kottwitz and Paul Curtis and great-grandmother Beulah Miller. Cousins Tyler and Deidre Raymond also preceded him in death. Timothy always considered those who were less fortunate. He donated his hair to "Locks of Love" during his lifetime and became an organ donor after his sudden death. Timothy's funeral service was held on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Walter Griffin conducted the service and Judy McDonald and Rhonda Webber read a poem in Timothy's honor. Recorded musical selections included "When I get Where I'm Going", "Calling All Angels", "How Great Thou Art", "In Better Hands" and "Slow Fade". Casketbearers were James "Rudy" Elliott, Bryce Romans, Bryan Kottwitz, Andy Kottwitz, Steven Kottwitz and Nathan Kottwitz. Honorary casketbearers were Zachary Webber, John Robert Kottwitz, Chris Kottwitz, Brian Curtis, Chad Curtis, Steven Curtis, Troy Curtis, Cody Curtis, Deryk Meyer and Jordan Kottwitz.
