In the matter of Indian claim of Jane Elisabeth Bunch and children for Cherokee
Fund.
Before me a notary Public within and for the county and State afforesaid duly
authorized to
administer oathes Personally came Sophia Duckworth age 91 years old and a
resident of said St. Clair
Co. being duly sworn on her oath says I have resided in St. Clair County for 65
years or more. I was
well and personally acquainted with John Carr Bunch, who Intermarried with an
Indian woman, i.e. Nancy
H. Tally of the Chickasaw Tribe. The said John Carr Bunch was of the Cherokee
Tribe. Said John Carr
Bunch was said to be 1/2 Blood Cherokee Indian. Issue of the marriage of John
Carr Bunch and Nancy
H. Talley Bunch was borned Jane Elizabeth who when Grown to womanhood married a
white man
Isaac Kitterman; of this Issue was born Dorah Caroline (now Caroline D.
Guilfoile) and William Henry
Kitterman
of the said Jane Elisabeth Kitterman, 2nd marriage was with David Edwin Bunch.
Of this Issue Minnie
Lark Bunch was bornd; and Heenan Anderson, a son.
I was also well acquainted with David Anderson Bunch, a Brother to John C. Bunch
who Intermarried
with a white woman, Deliah Cobb. To this Issue was born Francis Deberiah, a
daughter who Intermarried
with a white man, James P. Snyder and of that Issue a son was born, Orville P.
Snyder.
Affiant further states my acquaintances with John Carr Bunch and David Anderson
Bunch for the long
Period of time above mentioned, and my acquaintances with Indians and Indian
cusoms assure me of the
Fact that the Bunches were Indians as said to be by those who knew them; their
customary dress habits and
actions demonstrated all the facts above stated, that they were Indians.
